Two kinds of challenge
They look similar and they pay very differently. It is worth knowing which you joined.
Goal challenges
Reach the step figure before the clock runs out and the prize is yours. Everyone who reaches it is paid; your position does not matter.
Ranked challenges
Walkers are ordered by steps and only the paid places win. The challenge shows the prize table and where the cut falls.
Leaderboards
See your position inside a challenge and overall. Placing builds XP toward your level rather than paying coins.
Joining, and what it can cost
Most challenges are free to join. Some are not, and the app says so before you commit.
Entry
A challenge is either free to enter or costs coins. The entry cost is shown on the challenge before you join.
Joining early
Some challenges let you join before they start so the whole period counts. That early door can cost coins or an ad on top of entry.
Claiming a prize
A prize is claimed within a window shown on the challenge. Miss the window and it lapses.
Questions about challenges
What happens if I join a challenge late?
A standard join counts your steps from the moment you join, so the earlier period is forfeited. Some challenges offer an early door that buys the whole period, for coins or an ad.
Do I always win something if I reach the goal?
On a goal challenge, yes — everyone who reaches it is paid. On a ranked challenge, only the paid places win, however far you walked.
Do challenge prizes need an ad?
Some do and some do not. The challenge states which before you claim, and the claim button names the ad when one is required.
Do leaderboards pay coins?
No. Leaderboard placings build XP, which raises your level and with it the daily coin limit.
